Q.        I am 52 years old.  I did not have period for about a year.  All of a sudden, I had a good amount of period last month, then it stopped.  I am glad it did.  However, my menopausal symptoms had increased.  They include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, loss of sexual drive, weight gain, depression and extreme fatigue.  How much longer would I suffer from these symptoms?  Can you recommend holistic treatment for them?

A.        The symptoms you described are typical menopausal symptoms.  With proper treatment, these menopausal symptoms can be controlled.  Otherwise, they can linger for the rest of your life.  The following holistic treatment methods are most effective for menopause according to my clinical experience:

1.  Anti-Yeast Nutritional Program:

When you follow my “Eight Commandments:” no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, no yeasts, no caffeine, no alcohol, no nicotine, nor chemicals, your symptoms of hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings will be under control.

2.  Herbal Therapy:

Take the following formulas that I formulated for you to regain your health. For example: Take the Herbal Detox Package (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea) for removing yeasts, parasites, and toxins; and Female Vitality for balancing hormones such as estrogen to regain your sexual libido, increase your energy, and uplift your depression.  I also recommend our Fitness Plus (a fat burner) for weight control.

3.  Stress Management:

Meditate daily to reduce your day-to-day-stress.  Go to my website: www.drjsbest.com  to download a FREE 10-minute meditation guide.  If you practice daily, you will enjoy peace and harmony in your life whether you are in menopause or not.

4. Regular Exercise:

Regular exercise improves blood circulation, and gives you a regular supply of endorphins (a natural chemical that can make you feel calm and happy).  Regular exercise also burns calories and reduces weight.  If you experience extreme fatigue, just start slow walking or in-place jogging for five minutes, and gradually build up.

When you adopt the above holistic approach, you will be able to reduce or eliminate menopausal symptoms and enjoy the absence of monthly inconvenience!

Allergy symptoms usually occur in a cluster.  The physical causes of allergies are yeast and parasitic infections even though they might be ‘triggered” by certain types of food, molds, pollen, dusts, etc.  The psychological causes of allergies include stress and “unfinished business”.  To eliminate allergy symptoms, you need to employ a holistic approach including yeast-free nutrition, herbal therapy, stress management, and clear the emotional issues that haunt you.

Allergies affect people of all ages from all walks of life.  The following are some case examples:

Mary, a thirty-seven-year-old divorcee with two teenage children, had suffered from severe stomach pain for two years.  She also complained about symptoms such as frequent colds and flu, constipation, weight gain, poor mental concentration, mood swings, depression, anxiety, shortness of breath, fatigue and pain in her neck and shoulders.  She had consulted with many physicians and had gone through numerous laboratory tests. The results of the tests showed that there was no physical base for her ailments.  Consequently, Tagamet was prescribed for Mary’s stomach pain, valium was given for her anxiety, and psychotherapy was recommended for her depression.  Mary tried all these treatments without any results.  She began wondering whether she was a hypochondriac or that something was really wrong with her head.  All of her symptoms subsided in less than six months after she followed our yeast-free nutritional guidelines as well as taking our Herbal Detox (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea), Hormonal Regeneration (Female Vitality), and Weight Management programs (Herbal Cocktail and Fitness Plus).  She further received counseling to release her anger and resentment toward her ex-husband and develop a better relationship with her children.

Charlotte is another example.   She was a seventy-year-old woman and had suffered from recurrent bronchitis and anxiety attacks since she can remember.  After treatment with antibiotics, she felt better for a short while but the symptoms would usually worsen afterwards.  She made a commitment to follow the yeast-free nutritional regimen and take the Herbal Detox program (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea), and learned how to express her feelings more effectively.  Consequently, she was able to rid herself of the stubborn bronchitis and breath better for the first time in seventy years!

Men are not immune to allergy symptoms.  Rod, a sixty-one-year-old man, suffered from postnasal drips and chronic fatigue for many years.  He craved sugar all the time so he ate a lot of candies and sweet fruits. His body and breath had a bad odor which negatively affected his sexual relationship with his wife.  He also had frequent temper tantrums.  Despite numerous visits to several physicians, Rod was extremely fatigued and depressed.  After he was placed on our yeast-free nutritional program, Herbal Detox (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea), Hormonal Regeneration (Male Vitality), Weight Management  (Herbal Cocktail), and marital counseling, his symptoms subsided in three months.

In the next article, I will detail the holistic, drug-free treatment methods for allergies.  Stay tuned.

According to Wikipedia, the term underweight refers to a human who is considered to be under a healthy weight level. “Underweight” means weighing less than what is expected to be a healthy person.

Over 66% of people in the U.S. are overweight.  Many people consider being underweight as a “lucky” situation. The fact of the matter is that an underweight condition could be a severe health issue.

Some examples of health issues associated with an underweight condition include: anemia, chronic fatigue, poor blood circulation, poor digestion and absorption, weak immunity, amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), infertility, complications during pregnancy, osteoporosis, etc.

In developed countries, the most common cause of being underweight is malnutrition, secondary to diseases such as cancer, hyperthyroidism, and yeast and parasitic infections.

After having dealt with underweight clients, both male and female, regardless of ethnicity, I have found the following holistic treatment to be very effective:

1.    Remove excessive yeast and parasites

I usually suggest a mega-dose of our Herbal Detox program (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea) to remove the “unwanted tenants” — yeasts and parasites quickly.   It’s not unusual that my underweight clients take Cleansing-Balance Tea four capsules around the clock during the waking hours, and drink two pots of Cleansing-Balance Tea a day.  The end result?  They see a lot of yeast debris, parasite eggs (like seeds), and bodies of mature worms in the toilet, and they experience marked improvement in their health conditions.

2.    Concentrated Herbal Nutrition: Herbal Smoothie

The herbal smoothie I described in previous articles is great for underweight people to gain muscle weight (healthy weight).  My underweight clients usually have up to three servings a day.  The Herbal smoothie recipe consists of purified water, sugar-free soy milk/rice milk/almond milk/coconut milk, Herbal Cocktail, Yeast-Para Control, Female Vitality, or Male Vitality.

3.    Yeast-Free Nutrition

A yeast-free nutritional program containing no sugar, no dairy, no yeast, no wheat, no caffeine, no alcohol, no nicotine, nor chemicals starves yeasts and parasites and nourishes your body.  The more my underweight clients stick to this nutritional program, the faster they gain healthy weight.  To learn what to eat and what to avoid, follow my yeast-free cookbook, Healthy and Tasty: Dr. J’s Anti-Yeast Cooking.

4.    Regular Exercise

Exercise improves healthy appetite, blood circulation, and oxygenation of body cells.  All of this helps underweight individuals gain muscle weight (healthy weight).  If the individual is too weak to engage in vigorous exercise, start with a few minutes of slow walking, and gradually increase to a higher capacity when body strength and stamina increase.

5.    Stress Management

People who are underweight tend to worry more than ordinary people do.  Stress management techniques such as meditation, prayers, affirmations, deep emotional releasing, writing letters to finish “unfinished business”, etc. have proven to be very effective in reducing anxiety and increasing relaxation.  For the details, read my book, Breaking the Yeast Curse: Food and Unconditional Love for Magic Healing.

There is no single cause for depression.  Most conventional health professionals, especially psychiatrists, believe that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the body, or by hereditary causes.  In these cases, their recommended treatment method focuses on changing the chemical balance in the body by prescribing anti-depressants.

This “band-aid” approach has caused many depressed individuals to become more depressed because the core issues are not dealt with.  As a result, patients may mistakenly ask their psychiatrists to prescribe higher dosages or more varieties of anti-depressants.  Anti-depressants have a wide range of side effects, including dry mouth, sleeping disorders, fatigue, weight gain, loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, etc., which can make the sufferers even more depressed.  A vicious circle ensues.

Based on my clinical observation, there are many situational changes in life that can cause depression, such as loss of loved ones, loss of job, relationship break-ups, illness (loss of health), unsuccessful business (loss of income and/or business esteem), loss of self-confidence, etc.   Depression is actually caused by one major reason: feeling of some sort of loss, or feeling of being “stuck” or “trapped.”

Even if the diagnosis of depression is genetic in nature, if the individual can change the life situation, the effect of the so called “genetic factor” or “chemical imbalance” can be minimized or eradicated.

In the next article, I will discuss the holistic, drug-free treatment for depression.

Your thyroid gland produces two main hormones, triiodothyronine (T-3) and thyroxine (T-4).  They maintain the rate at which your body uses fats and carbohydrates, help control your body temperature, regulate heart rate and the production of protein. Your thyroid gland also produces calcitonin, a hormone that regulates the amount of calcium in your blood.

According to the Mayo Clinic, causes of hypothyroidism include auto-immune disease (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), overtreatment of hyperthyroidism, radiation therapy for cancer, side effects of some medication such as lithium, thyroid surgery, and congenital conditions.  The Mayo Clinic staff claimed that the causes of auto-immune and congenital diseases are unknown.  The known causes are actually the results of mistreatment by the medical professionals.

According to my clinical observation of the clients I’ve worked with in the past 30 years, the major causes are as follows:

Poor Dietary Habits:

Excessive intake of sugar and fats make the thyroid gland overworked, and then exhausted.  When the thyroid gland is sluggish, the production of T3 and T4 are not sufficient to metabolize the overload of sugar and fats.  So, the vicious circle continues.  The end results are weight gain from sluggish metabolism, puffiness of the face, swollen ankles or swollen feet from water retention, cold hands or cold feet from poor temperature regulation, fatigue from insufficient use of the energy from food, hair loss from toxin build up in the kidneys, depression from low energy and a cluster of physical and mental symptoms, the list goes on.

Yeast and Parasitic Infections:

As I stated in previous articles, yeasts and parasites develop colonies at sites that are weak in your body.  When your thyroid function is weak, this area becomes a good incubator for yeasts and parasites.  Of course, this creates another vicious circle for the already sluggish thyroid gland.

Stress:

Stress, if not handled properly, can tense up all the organs, glands, nerves, and cells, and deplete the supply of blood, oxygen and nutrients to support their proper functions in your body.  Thus, a series of psychosomatic diseases can occur in addition to hypothyroidism.

Iodine Deficiency:

The trace mineral iodine is essential for the production of thyroid hormones.  If there is insufficient iodine in your diet, hypothyroidism can result from this deficiency.

The above causes are the most common for hypothyroidism according to my clinical experience.  The good news is that there are natural remedies without the need for drugs or surgery.  Stay tuned.  I will discuss holistic treatment methods in the next article.

According to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, an estimated 25 million people have some form of hypothyroidism, but only half have been diagnosed.

What is thyroid?  What is hypothyroidism?

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland in front of your windpipe.  Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough of a hormone called thyroxine.

Thyroxine governs your body’s metabolism and helps control how your body uses energy and how well your cells, tissues and organs work.  Therefore, not having enough thyroxine can cause unpleasant symptoms throughout your body.

The most common symptoms include:

Physical Symptoms:

  • Weight gain
  • Dry skin
  • Yellow skin
  • Hair loss, including the eyebrows
  • Swollen face, hands, legs, ankles or feet
  • Cold feet and cold hands
  • Aches and pains in muscles or joints
  • Hoarse or raspy voice
  • Constipation
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding or irregular periods
  • Fatigue

Mental Symptoms:

  • Slower thinking
  • Poor mental concentration
  • Slower speech or movement
  • Depression

In some cases, an enlarged thyroid gland, slowed heart rate, and infertility may occur.

In the next few articles I will discuss causes and treatment for hypothyroidism.  Stay tuned!

Menopause is when you have not had a period (or even light spotting) for 12 consecutive months. The menopausal symptoms experienced by most women actually occur during pre- or peri-menopause period.

During the peri-menopause stage, three key hormones such estrogen, testosterone, and progesterone fluctuate, and mostly are on the decline.  Consequently, you may experience various symptoms.  The most common ones are hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, irritability, insomnia, irregular periods, loss of libido, painful intercourse, difficulty concentrating, itchy skin, headaches, bloating, gastro-intestinal disturbances (such as gas), weight gain, hair loss or thinning, light-headedness, depression and anxiety.

As your estrogen levels decline during pre-menopause,your vagina wall will become thinner and weaker. Consequently, it can be easily irritated during intercourse and leave tiny scars or cuts where bacteria and yeasts can flourish.  So, vaginal yeast infections become common symptoms associated with menopause.

Treatment basically consists of regulating the hormonal levels.  Female Vitality is excellent for that purpose.  Female Vitality contains more than 20 ingredients of high quality Chinese herbs such as Ho-Shou-Wu, black cohosh, wild yam, etc. and absorbable vitamins needed for health promotion and maintenance.  The end results:  improved conditions for your hair, nail and skin, increased mental clarity, uplifted mood, productivity and sexual energy.

Based on my more than 30 years of clinical experience, I have found that women who do not have a healthy lifestyle tend to suffer more menopausal symptoms.  For example, when sugar consumption is high, episodes of hot flashes also increase. Therefore, it’s important to follow a yeast-free nutritional program that contains no sugar, dairy, wheat, yeasts, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, and chemicals.  It comes to a conscious decision between following the yeast-free nutritional program, or suffering from various menopausal symptoms.  If you would like to find out more about what you should eat (and what to avoid), follow the recipes in my yeast-free cookbook, Healthy and Tasty: Dr. J’s Anti-Yeast Cooking.

If you have excess toxins in your body which acerbate the menopausal symptoms, consider our Herbal Detox program (consisting of Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea) to remove the toxins.

Lifestyle changes are also important for promoting a healthy menopausal process. These include regular exercise, becoming a non-smoker, and getting physically and mentally fit.  To promote your mental health, I encourage you to follow the guidelines in my book, Breaking the Yeast Curse: Food and Unconditional Love for Magic Healing

The symptoms of menopause usually last for the whole menopause transition (until the mid 50s), but some women may experience them for the rest of their lives.  Therefore, it’s important to adopt a holistic approach to eradicate or prevent menopausal symptoms.

For consultation on yeast-free nutrition, herbal detox, hormonal imbalance, stress management, and spiritual counseling, please call us at (800) 715-3053, or send an e-mail to drj@drjsbest.com for an appointment.  We offer counseling over Skype and telephone as well as in person.
