A short while ago, I posted an article about herbal smoothie for hydration and nourishment for people having difficulty swallowing as result of radiation treatment for throat cancer.  Several people have asked questions about the benefits of herbal smoothie and its indications.  Here is the detailed information:

The recipe of herbal smoothie calls for:

1 cup of purified water

1 cup of sugar-free soy milk, or rice milk, or almond milk, or coconut milk

1 ripe banana (peeled and sliced)

1 scoop of Herbal Cocktail powder

2 capsules of Yeast-Para Control (break the capsules and use the powder content)

1 capsule of Female Vitality or Male Vitality (break the capsule and use the powder content)

Put the mixture in the blender on high speed for 10 seconds.

Here is the rationale for the above ingredients:

  • Purified water: right consistency of the recipe and hydration
  • Sugar-free soy milk, or rice milk, or almond milk, or coconut milk: smooth taste and protein source
  • Ripe banana: naturally sweet taste and smooth elimination
  • Herbal Cocktail:  High concentration of herbal protein, complex carbohydrates, and digestive enzymes. Nourishing the body and stopping sugar craving.
  • Yeast-Para Control: Removing yeasts and parasites, cleansing toxins, and building immunity.
  • Female Vitalityor Male Vitality: Increasing body strength, stamina, and mental clarity, and uplifting mood.

Please note: 

1)    ALL the recipes on my yeast-free nutritional program contain no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, no yeasts, no caffeine, no alcohol, nor chemicals.  No sweeteners are needed for this herbal smoothie because a ripe banana is natural sweet.  You may alternate banana with Fuji apple, or pear, or papaya for a variety of tastes and nutrients. 

2)    Do not add ice cubes.  When the temperature is icy cold, it prohibits proper absorption.  You may warm up the smoothie to luke warm (body) temperature for tube feeding.

3)    The amount of herbal formulas in this herbal smoothie recipe has been experimented and perfected for a smooth, “non-herby” and delicious taste.  Any deviation may change the taste.

Herbal Smoothie is good for:

  • Difficulty swallowing due to radiation therapy for cancer in the throat area.
  • Difficulty swallowing due to degenerative nervous system such as Lou Gehrig’s disease
  • Gastric-intestinal tract (G-I tract) ulcers such as stomach, esophagus, duodenal, or intestinal ulcers
  • Tube feeding for any reason, any age

Q.        I had radiotherapy for my throat cancer.  The treatment burned my throat and I have difficulty swallowing.  I am hungry and thirsty.  I feel very weak.  What would you recommend?  I am residing outside of the U. S., how can I get your products and services?

A.        Obviously you are malnourished and dehydrated.  The most important thing now is to get some nutrients and liquid in your body.  Since you have difficulty swallowing solid foods, I would suggest that you drink our herbal smoothie at least three times a day.

Ingredients:

                                  

1.  1 ripe banana

2.  1 cup of soy milk

3.  1 cup of purified water

4.  1 scoop of Herbal Cocktail powder (measuring scoop is inside the tub)

5.  2 capsules of Yeast-Para Control

 

Yield: 2 servings

 

Procedure:

 

  1. Peel ripe banana.  Place sliced banana into the blender.
  2. Add soy milk, purified water, Herbal Cocktail.
  3. Break the Yeast-Para Control capsules and add the powder content to the mixture
  4. Press “high” button and blend for 10 seconds.

 

Please note: 

  • This recipe takes away the “herby” taste and is delicious for all, including children, who don’t like to swallow Yeast-Para Control capsules.
  • Yeast-Para Control is designed to remove excess yeasts, parasites, and toxins in the body, and build up the immune system.
  • Herbal Cocktail is a high protein herbal drink rich in nutrients and digestive enzymes.  It will stop sugar craving and soothe the uneasy stomach.

  • You may replace soy milk with rice milk or almond milk.

In the previous article, I addressed the symptoms and probable causes of yeast infections in the children I worked with in the past three decades.  Now let’s take a look at the holistic treatments that get my young clients well:

1.    Yeast-Free Nutritional Program:

My yeast-free nutritional program for children contains no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, nor yeasts.  As I pointed out in the previous article, most infants and young children have lactose intolerance.  When parents of my clients switched baby formulas from cow milk to soy milk, they observed that their babies’ allergy symptoms such as colic, trench mouth, constipation, diarrhea, and geographic tongue dissipate quickly.

I have found that young children actually follow my yeast-free nutritional programs well when their parents are committed.  I remember that when we had a restaurant in Westwood, California, we used to have young customers who frequently came for “chicken nuggets” made of soy.  This is a proof that taste buds can be changed.  Children usually follow the lead of the parents.  To learn what to eat and what to avoid, follow my yeast-free cookbook, Healthy and Tasty: Dr. J’s Anti-Yeast Cooking.

By the way, in addition to many main dishes and soups, this yeast-free cookbook also has recipes for yummy baked goods including cookies, brownies, and muffins containing no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, nor yeasts.  Great treats for young children!  Involving children in the cooking and baking process is a great way to help them learn how to eat healthy.  Once you are acclimated to my cooking principles, you can create your own recipes regardless of where you are in the world.

 

2.    Keeping the Environment Dry:

Keep the baby’s diapers dry and clean.  Sprinkling some talcum powder after a diaper change can help prevent diaper rashes.  Calamine lotion is great for skin rashes on the face or other parts of the body.  Guide young children to keep their environment organized, dry, and clean.  They usually appreciate such a good habit.

 

3.    Herbal Therapy

As mentioned in the previous article, children with yeast infections tend to be misdiagnosed by their pediatricians as having bacterial infections and mistreated with excessive amounts of antibiotics.  This, in turn, perpetuates yeast infections.  In addition to a yeast-free nutritional program, our Herbal Detox (Yeast-Para Control and Cleansing-Balance Tea) works wonders to clean up children’s mid-ear infections, tonsillitis, strep throat, and asthma.  For children who cannot swallow the capsules, our Herbal Smoothie is a great way for them to take the formulas they need for their health.  I will post the recipe for my Herbal Smoothie in the next article.

 

4.    Parents Leading Good Examples:

Most babies with yeast infections were born with the symptoms.  The parents will also need to be treated.  It’s common sense that when parents are on a healthy track, the children will more easily follow.

 

5.    Replenishing Vitamin L (L for Love):

Children need assurances that they are loved; otherwise, they tend to think that they were the causes for dysfunctional situations (i.e. feeling guilty for their parents’ break-ups in the case of divorce).  Some children also use sickness as another way to get attention when they perceive that they are unloved.  Frequent reassurance of love helps build their self-esteem and immunity.

 

Follow the guidelines above, and you will increase your chances in raising healthier and happier children!

I just love Dr. J’s programs!  I was referred to her because I did not have period for years (amenorrhea) and I was too young to go through menopause.  I would like to have a second child if I could, so I am very committed.  Dr. J’s put me on Herbal Detox (Yeast-Para Controland Cleansing-Balance Tea) and Hormonal Regeneration (Female Vitality) programs.

Q.        What would be good for breakfast that is yeast-free?  Is gluten free brown rice bread okay?

A.        My yeast-free cookbook, Healthy and Tasty: Dr. J’s Anti-Yeast Cooking, gives you a typical day’s menu.  The cookbook teaches you principles of yeast-free nutrition consisting of no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, no yeasts, no caffeine, no alcohol, no nicotine, nor chemicals (Dr. J’s “Eight Commandments”). 

Most Americans are used to the Standard American Diet (SAD) which is loaded with yeast-favorite food.  It may not be possible to have “the best” choice all the time, but you can go for a “better” choice.  If you follow 50% of our principles, you will get 50% of the benefits; if you follow 75%, you will get 75% of the benefits.  Do the best you can and experience results proportionate to your efforts.

In terms gluten free brown rice bread, please be aware that all grains have gluten.  It’s just that the kind of gluten in brown rice is not a favorite food for yeasts and parasites; therefore, it will nourish your body instead of feeding your little enemies.  To my knowledge, the brown rice bread available in markets today may have yeasts and/or sugar.  You will need to decide whether you want to take the consequences of consuming these negative ingredients.

Kamut bread has no sugar, no dairy, no wheat, nor yeasts.  We used to make kamut-bread avocado sandwiches for our customers in the past.  You might want to go to your local health food stores to see if they carry that item.

You can also rotate with oatmeal and oat bran muffins (see recipes in my yeast-free cookbook).  Meanwhile, you can have an Herbal Cocktail smoothie with a grain you choose.  This cocktail would be both delicious and nutritious!
