  • Somehow you don’t seem to be able to get out of the rut no matter how hard you tried.

  • Why good things happen to bad people and bad things happened to good people?
  • “Why me?” Sometimes you really feel sorry for yourself.

A Gallup poll revealed that more than 38 million Americans now believe that they had past lives.  In my more than three decades of clinical practice, I have been surprised and delighted to find that more and more intelligent and educated people from all walks of life believe in reincarnation or at least keep an open mind about it.

In Britain, polls showed that belief in reincarnation by the general public had risen by 28 % in a 10-year period.   This growing interest in reincarnation is not just limited to the general public.  Increasing numbers of psychotherapists and medical doctors are using past-life regression techniques to help their clients overcome physical and psychological health problems.

Psychotherapists and hypnotherapists such as Morris Netheron in California and Joe Scranton in England have demonstrated on film and television their fascinating work involving past-life regression in adults.

In my therapeutic work, I combine traditional psychotherapy and past-life regression techniques.  Therefore, I prefer to refer to the process as past-life therapy, instead of past-life regression.  Woolger (1988, P 13) in his book, Other lives, Other Selves has made the point very clear: “Past-life exploration can be like taking the lid off Pandora’s box; it can unleash potent forces over which we may have little control.  For this reason, it is my firm belief that guiding regressions and research into past lives should only be undertaken by those fully trained in psychotherapy.”

In the next article, I will share with you some specific clinical examples related to physical and psychological illnesses or blockages in the context of past-life therapy.  Once you understand why the blockage exists, you will be more able to accept the situation, and then forgive yourself or other wrong doers, and finally release the physical and/or emotional trauma.  Stay tuned!
